Sharon was like any other marketing manager. The company she worked for, including her boss, all expected her to come up with new, and exciting ROI boosting marketing campaigns - every time. But she often found herself constantly running around putting out one marketing fire after the other, and getting bogged down in office politics and minutia. Finding time to think up new cutting edge ideas was falling further and further down her "to do" list.
Her daily life was, for the most part, routine but she knew she couldn't allow routine, and the daily office grind cut-off the flow of her creative juices.
" After all," she thought, "It's the creative side of marketing campaigns that makes them exciting, fun, bringing in profits like gang busters!"
She set about scheduling creative thinking time in her work day. She'd close her office door, and sit for 10 minutes. Spending those precious moments thinking up new ideas for the next marketing campaign. She decided to use her travel time to think; even allowing her imagination to flow in the morning shower!
And as she was beginning to enjoy spending 10 minutes every day, thinking up new, and exciting campaigns, she later discovered that our brains were most creative just before dropping off to sleep, and just as we awoke. So she took advantage of this new found information to think creatively at those times too. She put a pencil, and writing pad on her bedside table, and one in her handbag or pocketbook. So she could write down any ideas, however crazy or insignificant they seemed, as they flashed across her mind.
Before she knew it, she was bringing more and more adventurous ideas to creative meetings. Not all her ideas were used. But she felt good because she knew she was bringing interesting, and innovative ideas to the table. No more was she allowing her heavy schedule prevent her from doing what she did best - create cutting edge marketing campaigns.
